OUR TECHNOLOGY

At Kailani Surfboards, innovation is not just an idea—it’s our DNA. Guided by Julio’s philosophy of “La Fórmula”, we combine years of shaping expertise, professional surfing knowledge, and cutting-edge materials to design boards that push performance to the next level.

Every surfboard is the result of meticulous experimentation, blending tradition with advanced composites, precision engineering, and modern flex technologies. From carbon stringers to the groundbreaking X-Flex Formula 4.0, our focus is always on delivering the perfect balance of strength, responsiveness, and speed.

Our commitment to technology is simple: to keep evolving, to keep innovating, and to keep giving surfers the tools they need to ride harder, faster, and better than ever before.

X-FLEX FORMULA 4.0

The X-Flex Formula 4.0 is Kailani’s signature technology, designed to give surfers maximum performance through controlled flex and unmatched responsiveness. This innovative construction integrates dual carbon fiber strips placed in an X-shaped layout across the deck. The crossing point creates a radial flex pattern in four directions, allowing the board to bend precisely: nose to tail, rail to rail, and tail to nose.

On the bottom, an additional carbon fiber strip balances the flex from deck to underside, creating a perfectly tuned feel underfoot. Combined with ½-inch high-density Marko EPS foam, the result is a board that delivers strength, lightness, and dynamic flex—engineered for speed, control, and flow in every wave.

With X-Flex Formula 4.0, Kailani Surfboards redefines what’s possible: a lighter, stronger, more responsive ride that adapts to the surfer and the wave.

CARBON Vacuum BAG

Our Carbon Vacuum Bag process removes excess resin that isn’t needed, resulting in a lighter, more responsive surfboard. By creating a tighter bond between the fiberglass and foam, this method not only enhances performance but also significantly improves durability—reducing the risk of delamination, buckling, and breakage.

The result: a board that feels faster underfoot, lasts longer, and delivers consistent performance in every session.

EPoly Construction

Our EPoly construction combines a traditional polyester blank with the strength of epoxy resin. This winning formula creates a surfboard that is lightweight, durable, and highly flexible, offering the perfect balance of performance and longevity.

The result is a board that feels lively underfoot, holds its flex session after session, and delivers consistent speed and control in the water.

VF5 Technology Explained

Here at 760 Glassing Co. we can use VF5 Technology on any of your current models and shapes. It can be done on both stringer and stringer less PU and EPS blanks, but ideally it works best on PU blanks for strength. Then we glass it using a unique industrial textile material and epoxy resin before vacuum bagging it for extra strength and to reduce weight.

Our specially formulated fiber glass is a dimensionally stable engineering material that does not stretch or shrink after exposure to extremely high or low temperatures. Additionally, it does not absorb moisture, and does not change physically or chemically when exposed to water. It’s high strength-to-weight ratio of glass fiber makes it ideal for creating a board of high strength with minimum weight. We use epoxy resin because it is both more durable and flexible than polyester resin which allows for more flex in the board. The vacuum bag process sucks out the extra resin which lightens up the board more and makes it more responsive. The combination of all parts of this technology creates the most high performance construction available on the market.

Our specially formulated fiberglass anchors the glass to the blank preventing delams, buckles and breakage. This proprietary fiberglass also keeps the board flex intact longer, preventing your board from going “flat.” We use epoxy resin because it is both more durable and flexible than polyester resin which allows for more flex in the board. The vacuum bag process sucks out the extra resin which lightens up the more and makes it more responsive. Durability is increased significantly for both breaks and buckles in comparison to standard pu/eps construction, although should be pointed out are still not indestructible.

VF5 technology creates a final product of surfboards that are lighter, more responsive, more durable and last longer than any other typical boards on the market thru their higher performance levels and longer functional board life.

VF5 Glass Schedules

We offer 3 glass schedules for our VF5 technology depending on performance goals.

Our VF5.1 is our team light for the most high performance surfers. These are the lightest boards possible and still may dent under the feet of the surfer but with much less possibility of delaming like they would with a standard poly construction. Even at their feather light weight, these boards are still stronger than a standard glass schedule.

Our VF5.2 is our standard glass for this technology which increases durability against both deck denting and breakage. This glass schedule provides the best blend of high performance and lighter weight to added durability and longevity. This glass will resist excessive deck denting and has significantly stronger breakage points than standard PU boards.

Our VF5.3 is our most durable layup, providing additional deck strength and buckling/breakage prevention. This glass schedule is for surfers that are hard on their boards, and has a history of breaking boards easily. This is the strongest layup out there and keeps your performance shape intact and going strong for a long time.
